WARNING: Shuffle gave me The Smiths. Inevitably the synopsis now contains mentions of suicide. It is treated as a black comedy in true Brit fashion and is really not all that depressing, but if that sort of thing upsets you or gives you bad thoughts, please don’t read any further. Okay? Okay.

And if a double-decker bus / crashes in to us
to die by your side / is such a heavenly way to dieSYNOPSIS: Ian (Matt Smith) has two loves in his life, his girlfriend Andy (Katee Sackhoff) and 80’s alternative band The Smiths. The latter broke up in 1987. Andy broke up with him two hours ago.
Years of obsessing over sad British pop music combined with his own slightly over-dramatic nature, lead him to believe that the only way he could ever express the “unrestrained torment of his soul” is by committing suicide and leaving a damning (but very romantic, in his opinion) letter for Andy so she will finally understand how much he loves her.
After several failed attempts, he finally decides to step in front of a double-decker bus but is saved at the last moment by Simon (Rupert Grint). Realizing that he will only try again, Simon and Ian strike a deal wherein Simon will have a month to help Ian win back the love of his life and during that time Ian will not make more attempts on his life.
Over the next several weeks Simon’s matchmaking skills, patience and his crush on cute American expatriate Hannah (Emma Stone) are severely tested but out of it comes a friendship that will last a lifetime.
However long that will be.
